| Welcome to Greece Strings |
| The Gift of Music |
| Greece Strings offers Suzuki and Traditional violin and viola lessons for ages 4 through adult. What other gift can a parent give to their child that comprises spending quality time as a family on a musical journey where you both discover new horizons together? The Suzuki Method gives parents the opportunity to teach their child something they will carry with them for the rest of their life. Reading and Math skills are reinforced and learning techniques are honed before a child even enters school, thus teaching our children how to teach themselves from a very early age. As the parent learns to be the at home teacher, the parent-child relationship is enriched. What better preparation for the challenges of school could be more fun and fulfilling? |
What are the Suzuki and Traditional Teaching Methods? |
| The Suzuki Method, developed by Shinichi Suzuki over 40 years ago, is an aural approach to teaching the violin to very young children. He believed that with love and kindness, much could be accomplished. The method grows as the child grows. In the beginning fun teaching games and techniques are used to teach technique and comfort on the instrument. As the student grows more skills are added at age appropriate times, such as reading Traditional teaching methods usually begin at later ages, such as nine and up, where introductory technical skills are usually mastered more quickly leading directly to reading development much sooner. |
Who is it for and how do we (I) get started? |
| The Suzuki Method was developed and designed for very young children. The optimum age is four years old, but depending on the student, lessons, may begin as early as three. Parental presence in the lesson and supervision of practicing at home is required. Part of the early lessons will be devoted to parent education and training in order to reinforce good habits at home. Traditional lessons do not necessarily require the parents’ presence and are best suited for students age ten through adult. Weekly homework is assigned. New lesson material is expected to be prepared at each lesson so that skills can be introduced and developed. |
